At !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , this is the cheapest new 2014 on Autotrader. Don't know how the build quality on these are but...a new car for less than 5 figures.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I can't imagine future new cars being any cheaper than that, but if that happens, would it even make sense to buy used anymore?

It's cheaper than leasing a Camry for three years O_O (Sorry only comparison I can draw, was looking up leases recently.)

Not bad, really. It's an econobox, sure. But it has power windows/locks, a warranty and A/C for less than ten grand? Works for me.

A Versa can easily be had for under 5 figures. I'd take this over a Versa.

I wouldn't mind owning this. Yeah it's incredibly boring and slow but it's a manual and it gets pretty good millage and has a warranty.

Model T's were $260 near the end of production, or $3,205.97 in today's money.

It always makes sense to buy used! You can get a better car for the money everytime.

You can get a better car *in worse condition with no warranty for the money everytime.

Fixed. Carmax (for a handsome fee) can fix the warranty part, but nothing you do to that car can recover the years it's absorbed as a used vehicle. This is why new cars can compete with and beat the used versions of themselves on the market.

Did you see how they got to that number?

M.S.R.P. $15,660.00 South Loop Dealer Discount (Discount from South Loop Hyundai) $3,600.00 Retail Bonus Cash (Typical Manufacturer Rebate) $500.00 Valued Owner Coupon (Must Own Current Hyundai, Ask for Details) $500.00 U.S. Military Coupon (Reservist/National Guard,Veteran, Retired. Ask for Details) $500.00 Mobility Coupon (Up to $1,000.00 in new adaptive equipment, Ask for Details) $1,000.00 Boost Up Matching (Down Payment Match, Ask for Details) $500.00 College Grad (For soon to be grads and previous grads within 2yrs, Ask for Details) $400.00 *E-Price $8,660.00

So to get that price you need to be a current or former military, recent college grad currently driving a Hyundai who can put down at least a $1000 down payment.

It'll always make sense. Under normal conditions used cars are always cheaper than similar new cars.

What I don't understand is how this new car with 12 miles on it can cost hardly more than half its MSRP.

I'd take a 20-year-old Sentra over a new Versa.

Also, $500 of that is a coupon towards adaptive equipment for the disabled, but the buyer has to put in $1000 total of adaptive equipment.

Also, (Sales tax, obviously) and Title, License Fee, Registration Fee, Dealer Documentary Fee, Finance Charges, Destination, Dealer Accessories, Emission Testing Fees and Compliance Fees are additional.

Most people would still pay about $13,500 out the door.

My roommate just got a 2014 Accent hatch for $17k. It impresses inside, but the engine sounds like shit.

Nothing wrong with gently used. My last 2 cars purchased were 3 years old with under 40k miles (still under manufacturers warranty), and had no door dings, scratches, stains etc. The lastest one has 14k miles and was $25k under its original sticker price. One owner, CPO (3 additional years of warranty), and has a clean carfax. I don't mind letting someone else take the first 40% of depreciation. My previous M3 only depreciated $7k in 4 years. Can't beat that!

And it doesn't look terrible, either. I'm sure it would be fun for autocrossing.
